Roots of Happiness

July 7th - July 17th

This 10-day work-study retreat will offer young adults an opportunity to be introduced to Buddhism at Vajrapani Institute. Through guided meditations, discussions and exposure to a Buddhist community, participants will gain insight into what it means to be a Buddhist practitioner.  By integrating these values into everyday life, participants can achieve happier, more balanced lives becoming a deeper benefit to their friends and families. Besides learning meditation and discussing Buddhist concepts, we will work on beautifying the land, creating friendships and enjoy camping amidst the majestic, peaceful redwoods.

"I feel as if I have found a precious little oasis, where I have the opportunity to work, study and practice amidst an enchanting redwood forest.  The atmosphere is one of tranquility and serenity, which I find are very good conditions to cultivate a peaceful mind. Serving a Buddhist community feels very rewarding.” – Cristian

The retreat will be lead by Vajrapani Institute’s resident youngsters Heidi, Jacob, and Cristian.  Guest speakers and teachers will also be invited from the Vajrapani community and Sangha to give teachings as a wonderful chance for further discussion and insight.

“Since coming to Vajrapani I have noticed quite a few changes in my life. Karmas ripens very quickly here. Almost as soon as a thought arises , I can start to see it manifesting around me. Vajrapani is a wonderful pureland where you gain loads of positive imprints and burn away eons of negative karma.” - Heidi

“Vajrapani is special.  It’s not just a quiet place, nor is it just a place for inner reflection.  There is a sense of being held, as if the people here and the land itself are physically holding me, gently opening up my heart and my mind so that I can really see what’s going on, both inside myself and inside the world. I know that coming here has changed me in way’s I won’t realize till much, much later. I am very grateful. – Jacob
