Sangha Policies and Guidelines

We Welcome the precious Sangha Jewel to Vajrapani Institute!

We thank you in advance for reading these guidelines carefully and comprehensively, as they lay out a framework for ensuring that your stay at Vajrapani is beneficial for all residing on this blessed land.

Reduced Fees / Sponsorship for FPMT Courses
Vajrapani Institute is delighted to offer reduced fees and (subject to need) sponsorship to members of the monastic community who wish to attend FPMT Courses. We hope our support will help the Sangha to flourish and ensure the preservation of the Dharma, especially in the West.

We do however ask for your help in supporting the long term financial well-being of this Institute. We ONLY request a financial contribution if you can afford to make one, or if you have access to sponsors. If not, we are happy to welcome you at our own costs.

Our Sangha rate is a total of $40 per day. ($20 per day for food plus $20 per day for accommodation in the monks’ or nuns’ dorm. Information correct as of April 08). All ordained Sangha with sponsors of financial means are invited to contribute any amount, full or partial.

Please note this special rate can only be applied to those staying in the monks’ or nun’s dorm (which are each semi-private dormitories consisting of 4 beds). We cannot offer this reduced rate for private accommodations.

Reduced Fees / Sponsorship for Private Retreats
Vajrapani Institute is delighted to offer a 50% discount on standard rates for an ordained monastic wishing to reserve a private retreat cabin.

Due to limited resources, only 1 ordained monastic at a time may use the 50% discount.

For example, if 2 monastics have requested a private cabin for the same time period, the discount will be offered to the first monastic reserving the cabin.

Bookshop Discount
We are pleased to offer ordained Sangha a 30% discount on all bookshop items.

Food Requests
Since Vajrapani Institute is located in a rural area, while maintaining simple facilities and a small staff, we do not have the resources to handle special meal requests. We ask all visitors to please eat the vegetarian meals offered here.

Medical Dietary Needs
If you have special medical dietary restrictions, it is important you communicate your needs fully and specifically one week before you arrive, to the Vajrapani Office Manager. Otherwise we will not be able to accommodate your requests.

Precepts
Please inform our Spiritual Program Co-ordinator (SPC) two days in advance if you are taking precepts. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide early lunches (before noon). Therefore you should take this into consideration. If you know that you will not need lunch, please notify the SPC as soon as possible.

Photocopying
Due to our limited resources, photocopying services are not available at Vajrapani Institute.

Grocery Requests and Rides into Town during your Stay
Since we maintain a small staff, we are unable to perform shopping errands for you during your stay. Thank you in advance for coming prepared. When preparing your trip, please keep in mind we are a half-hour drive from the nearest (small) town of Boulder Creek. If you should need a ride into Boulder Creek to do some shopping, staff members make this journey 2 or 3 times a week at least. As long as you are prepared to wait up to a day or so, we should be able to give you a ride.

Informing Us of Your Whereabouts
For safety reasons, it is important the Office Manager knows where you are. Please inform the Office Manager if you leave the land before your planned departure date. Should there be an emergency, we need to know exactly how many people are on the land.

Personal Items
As others share our communal space, we appreciate that you not leave personal belongings in public areas.
